About

Helping the people next door.

Most of us have things we no longer use, or an hour we could spare, that would make a real difference to someone living a few streets away. commoonal connects the two of you directly.

Giving locally makes the people you help visible. Whether it's a bag of outgrown toys or a trip to the pharmacy, it turns a donation into a small act of neighborliness and builds a sense of shared responsibility in your community.

Our story

It started with a box of outgrown toys.

Our kids grow out of their toys, or get bored of them, long before the toys wear out. So we looked at how many new toys are sold in the US every year, and at how many children grow up in families that can't afford them.

$22 billionof new toys sold in the US each year
14.7 millionUS children (19%) living in poor families
6.5 millionUS children (9%) living in extremely poor families

Figures as published on the original commoonal site.

We built commoonal so those toys could go straight to a child who will play with them, instead of sitting in a basement, attic, or garage. Toys were just the start. Today you can share anything useful on commoonal, from clothes and books to your own time and skills. It's free to download and use, with no ads.
